Put on 30k miles in one year and two days. T o celebrate the first time I’ve gone a whole year without breaking down I did a little donut.
I got the top down at least once a month, yes even in February in Michigan. Averaged 32 mpg according to the car ( I’ve checked it a few times to make sure its close to accurate). S pace has been an issue only a couple times, like when transporting tires.
Still loving this thing. Its peppy, the interior is lovely place to spend time and the manual is great.

How much do you notice the tendency of the rear suspension to hit the bump stops in cornering that the reviewers were all complaining about when it was new?

I’m a little over 1,000 miles of ownership with my RF. I’m loving it.
It looks like you’ve got the full screen and not to the little mini half screen radio thing, are you going to update for car play when it’s available ?

Manage to have any top down snow fun?
Also, transporting tires is super easy with a Miata if you have a roll bar!
Anyways, always glad to see miata ownership going well =)

Yea never. I’m not really ever fully leaned into a corner and then hitting bumps. But actually thinking about it now, I did notice the Crossfire running out of suspension travel.

you sir are living the dream.
A group of NCs came through my gas station this morning , and it reminded me of the dark red 2008 that i wanted to buy back in January. As much as i would have love that car i love the usefulness of my Sedan even more. a couple days ago my wife and I drove to Superior and bought a bunch of stuff at Me nard’s including two framed doors. The doors went on the roof rack, and everything el se fit inside. in the past I would have had to take my wife’s car or borrow a truck, but instead of got to drive my car. in all it’s manual transmission , sport, luxury glory.

Really depends on the price. It already auto hooks up to bluetooth to stream music, so IMHO it doesnt need it.
Also my friend literally last night bought a Launch Edition RF. Thing is nice, has the lovely brown(i sh) leather interior.

I love that brown! It looks really nice. I forgot how hot black leather gets.
I’m definitely interested in getting carplay. Particularly for the wife’s cx5, but yes at what cost will be an interesting breaking point for me.

No, but I really need to this winter. I was waiting of the perfect day where it was sunny and the roads were covered. Now I’m willing to be honest about the shitty weather and have fun anyways.
This worked for me-

Not hating on practicality! But thats part of the reason why I got the Miata, no kids, no house, no responsibilities. Might as well get a little convertible while I can.

That’s double the mileage either my wife or I have ever put on a car in one year...do you have a few massive roadtrips that did that, or just a really long highway commute? Travel regionally every day for work?
I’m just curious because I’ve heard the same thing from about 95% of Miata owners: Fun as hell, but not a highway car.

That’s a lot of miles! Hope the love affair continues for many more.

Is the 30k from commuting? What enjoyable rides have you taken to get to 30k?
![]() 10/03/2018 at 14:00 |

32 mile commute one way (which is convenient because of the aforementioned 32mpg), I’m from 4 hours n orth, good friend lives 4 hours to the west and my recently- ex- girlfriend lives 4 hours to the east. I did/ do a lot of trips.
Even before the ex GF moved I was doing over 20k miles a year in the Crossfire.
The top does get a little loud, but music or just dropping the top helps.

B oth times I’ve gone to the tire shop like that, the guys there found it hilarious too.

Yup. Funny thing is now I have two cars and still no Miata. Purely because the Rabbit was half the cost of any Miata I could find. Initially....

Mostly commuting but I have done tail of the dragon once and I go back home to a little beach town often. Driving top down in cities is also fun.

Ahh yeah without wheels in there it is a ton easier lol. I did once transport four tires and four wheels (separate, unmounted ) in/on my Miata. Idk why I didnt take a picture because it was pretty ridiculous. One 15 inch wheel unmounted fit in the trunk, two in the passenger foot well, one on the passenger seat and then the tires split between the passenger seat and trunk lid luggage rack.
My favorite top down adventure ever consisted of driving over a mountain pass to a ski mountain in Vermont with a subaru following me through the unplowed pass and then passing by a giant crowd of people at the ski mountain who were cheering at the absurdity. Subaru guy was impressed that I made it through there as well.

Yea, if its a 2nd car (read:toy) cost matters a lot.

The funny thing is I’ve dropped at least a grand on parts and tools for the Rabbit. If I had put that 1000 into savings and waited for a Miata I probably could have made it work. I’m just not good at saving money. Much better at spending it

Haha nice. Reminds me, one time I took my Crossfire to some trails around where I grew up. State land for hunting, mudding, etc. Slide around a corner where some atv/dirt bike guys where chilling, g ot a thumbs up.
Sometimes its fun doing things with the wrong tool.
Don’ t worry though, top down in the snow is a goal.

This is now a Miata tire transportation thread

I’m okay with this and we need someone with a NC in here.

But we are talking Miatas, not boats lol.

If you haven’t already, install the Hard Dog tow-hitch. I tow a small trailer I use to haul tires/toolbox to autocross/track.
![]() 03/20/2019 at 16:34 |

Well I need to start auto crossing so I have a reason to get it.

If you like it and get into it, add Karcepts front sway bar and reinforcing bracket , upgrade to some Hawk HP+ pads when the time comes to get new ones, and some Bridgestone RE71Rs to go on a second set of wheels to your shopping list.

Lol, Miata autocross 101.

I get excited about it, it’s my light at the end of the work week.
